Quotation of the Week (38/2010)

DSCN8726-1

“My favourite poem is the one that starts 'Thirty days hath September' because it actually tells you something.”
~ Groucho Marx ~

Thirty days hath September,
April, June, and November;
All the rest have thirty-one,
Excepting February alone,
And that has twenty-eight days clear
And twenty-nine in each leap-year.

Groucho really had some sharp, clever, and funny quotes! I didn't know this one.

I try and recite that every time i need to know how many days a particular month has. The trouble is that after 60 years I still can't memorise it. How silly is that?

We have a similar rhyming poem in Swedish but I always had more difficulties remembering the order of that poem than the number of days in each month ;) I'm not sure I ever heard the English version until I looked it up now, in connection with finding the Groucho Marx quote.
