To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.

Biggest smiles from me!!! The photo is adorably clever to accompany your wonderful words of wisdom. I really like this photo :) and definitely fed on the words.

I'm not sure whether I think that is the greatest one can accomplish but it is certainly a considerable accomplishment. Few, though, will ever have achieved it fully. I would suggest that the great majority of us are moulded in some way by our circumstances and the world around us.

I agree with this quote as far as not going along with the pack and following your heart, not the current rage or whims of others. Great picture. What kind of bulb is it?

All your comments are as interesting as the original quote! I have no idea what kind of bulb it is. It's one that "will be what it will be"...

(I found it in a flowerbed in the park, it stood out because all of it was above ground.)

i wonder if it was meant to be above ground, it sure made a wonderful photo. I love when i find things like this, what a great find for you, and most people would probably miss it completely.

I like the quote. It's challenging. I remember reading some Emerson in high school He resonated with me then... still does.

GB makes some good points. Although moulded by others... perhaps we can maintain an above average amount of individualism? ;-)

You all make some very good points. I think I would say the trick is to learn when to adjust and when to go against the wind? "Being yourself" does not (in my opinion) exclude learning from other people. In total isolation, I don't think any of us would actually have any clear concept of who we really are!
