to me this quote means when we are in our sorrowful times we come closer to God. when times a good we tend to forget about The Light and when we fall to our knees with broken hearts we feel and see The True Light.
Yes GB as I've said before it is often the challenging ones that go into my notebook, for further pondering upon.
Eckhart was a 13th century theologian, philosopher and mystic. When I was 16, and a new "convert", I went to the library and looked rather randomly through their selection of theology. A book by Eckhart was one of the first of that kind of literature I ever read! (Had I asked someone's advice, they'd probably have suggested something easier.) I don't remember any details (this quote I found on the internet just recently), but it left an impression. I'm still drawn to the not-quite-self-evident kind of statements!
