Advent Calendar / 13 December - LUCIA
“A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle.”
~ James Keller ~
I did not get to see our town’s Lucia this weekend; but below is another St Lucia video for you, which was made for Swedish television in Mora in 2007, at the home/museum of famous Swedish painter Anders Zorn (1860-1920). This video includes Lucia and her maidens arriving by sleigh ride. You will also get glimpses from the kitchen, and get to see the Lucia carrying a coffee tray with the traditional buns and gingerbread cookies (see yesterday’s post).

This video is very different from your other one,I like this one much better! And everyone looks so happy!
The tunes are familiar and I've suddenly realised the significance. I can't believe that I was so dim when I read the last post.
Ginny: Yes I liked this one too because it caught glimpses of other things than just the singing. There are many Lucia videos on YouTube but the quality of them varies a lot!
GB: I'm not sure what it was that you suddenly realised, but one thing that I think I perhaps forgot to clarify is that once upon a time the Lucia night was thought to be the Midwinter solstice and the longest night of the year. So it is a celebration of the victory of light over darkness.
i love the bells, the way they look and sound. i am with ginny, i like this one best
I suddenly realised the significance of Santa Lucia. I was thinking that I'd not heard of her but I had, of course. I just hadn't placed her in context.
