The Spirit of Change and Order

There is always, still, something special about Mid August. In Sweden, the school holidays stretch from mid June to mid August. Most people have at least part of their holidays from work in July. In July, you rarely find anyone in their usual place or occupation. Official business that can be put off, is put off. In August, things slowly begin to move again. It's a time for getting back to Order. The stores are filled with notebooks, pencils, erasers, binders, school books and school bags. Every year, I still get drawn into the spirit of it, even though I'm neither student, nor teacher, nor parent, nor even employee any more. It's still there, in the very air we breathe: A season of Change; of getting back into Routines, and at the same time a New Beginning, a Fresh Start. In this country, because of the seasons, much more so in August than in Janary. We may make grand New Year promises; but we usually start September with much more energy and resolution.

So yesterday, I went out and bought myself two brand new notebooks. (See picture.)
And a new backpack. Not for school, but just for Me.

Good for you! I have several backpacks. One for en plein air painting, one for hiking, one stuffed with firstaid/needs things for the ever present danger of earthquakes and fires. A backpack is just so much easier to grab and carry than a suitcase LOL

I love the notebooks. Despite the fact that these days I write almost all my letters and notes on the computer I have a huge collection of fountain pens (many of which I do still use) and I buy and am given notebooks such as you have just bought. And then I have to find a use for them......

Dawn Treader...It must be the same feeling all around the world! I too have that feeling oech year of "back to school" and like you...I'm neither student or teacher but it is a great feeling. But at the same time somewhat reflective since it is the end of Summer.

Great Post!

Dan
