Quotation of the Week (33/09)

"You must learn to heed your senses. Humans use but a tiny percentage of theirs. They barely look, they rarely listen, they never smell, and they think that they can only experience feelings through their skin. But they talk, oh, do they talk. That makes up for the lack of use of their other senses."

Michael Scott, The Alchemyst
(words put in the mouth of the alchemyst Nicholas Flamel)

See my book review of this book in post below.

As a generalisation I think the quotation is accurate (oh how we do 'talk' orally and on paper) but it belittles the many that do use their other senses (not that I'm suggesting that I do). In particular many people experience feelings through emotion.

I would suggest that it's a very good subject for an evening's discussion or contemplation.

GB, I agree. It is a generalisation, and it can be discussed! When I jot down a quotation in my notebook, or pick one for this blog, it is far from always because I agree 100%. But for one reason or other it made me "stop and think"...
